Principal Partners

Raspberry Golf Management's principal partners are Robert Swiger, Steve Clark and LaMott Smith; with David Stradinger and Robert R. Hatten serving as executive advisors.  The partners will be responsible for discovery and management operations.  Responsibilities will be coordinated to take advantage of the personal strengths and professional expertise of each partner.  


Robert Swiger
Bob has 23 years of commercial and mortgage banking experience of which the last 17 years were oriented to golf course and resort development.  Swiger attended West Virginia University and holds a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Charleston.  His graduate studies were at Oklahoma University.

Swiger spent many years in the business of financing and development of commercial properties.  As prior President of Seabank Savings FSB in Myrtle Beach, SC. Swiger gained extensive experience in negotiating, financing and developing of varied properties; including a considerable number of daily fee golf courses. He also spent 13 years as a City Executive, and later Vice President and Regional Corporate Banker with South Carolina National Bank (now Wachovia Bank of South Carolina).   Throughout these positions, Swiger gained extensive knowledge of the financial aspects of golf course development, including risk assessment.


Swiger currently holds the distinction of partner and General Manager of the renowned Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club in Leesburg, VA and Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge, VA.  He has been the leading force behind these two award winning courses since conception.  He continues to be a managing partner with the development concern, Stradinger, Swiger and Hatten. 

Steve Clark
Steve joined Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club in 2000.  He is a graduate of the State University of New York and holds a BA in Economics.  Steve started his business experience working for Motorola, where he gained valuable experience in sales, product development and market analysis, before following his love of golf.  He began his golf management career at the prestigious Army & Navy Country Club in Virginia, and then over to Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club as the Head Golf Professional.  Steve currently is the Director of Golf Operations for Raspberry Falls and Old Hickory Golf Club.

Steve's strengths include experience at both start-up and established clubs, ranging from oversight surrounding development and opening of new golf properties; to the overseeing and managing of daily operations.  This includes recruitment, training, Food & Beverage, maintenance, pro shop operations; as well as merchandising, accounting, and sales and marketing.  His portfolio includes Ridgeview Country Club, Reston National, Kiskiack, Virginia National and Bristow Manor.

LaMott K Smith
As prior Director of Business Development for Forewinds Hospitality, LaMott Smith managed the entire acquisition program, and was responsible for discovering candidate properties, completing feasibility research, recommending strategies and negotiating for purchase.

With nearly 25 years of golf industry experience, Smith is a nationally recognized expert on virtually every aspect of golf management, including operations, business development, finance, personnel, product development and organizational development.

In addition, LaMott was a principal, strategist and consultant to golf property owners with Golf Profit Builders, a golf operations and marketing development consulting firm headquartered in southern New Jersey.   He also consulted with more than a dozen golf course owners/operators/developers throughout the Northeast. In addition, his portfolio includes being an executive with American Golf, Meadowbrook Golf and RDC Golf Group; managing over 400 employees and 10+properties with revenues exceeding $50 million. 

LaMott has played a key role in the acquisition and start-up of more than three dozen golf courses around the country for American Golf, Meadowbrook Golf, RDC Golf and Forewinds Hospitality.

Executive Advisors

David Stradinger
David has been involved in land development since 1976.  He holds a BA from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, and an MPA degree in Urban Planning and City Management from University of Virginia.  Stradinger began his career in City Management; serving as Assistant City Manager of Charlotte, NC, for three years, followed by five years as City Manager of Myrtle Beach, SC.  In 1980, Stradinger joined the private sector and began developing resort properties.  Since that time, Stradinger has directed the full range of all development activities including feasibility, permitting, architectural and interior design, building construction, earth moving, financing, marketing and sales.   Stradinger has developed over $1 billion in high rise hotel and condominiums, commercial projects, planned unit development and private and public daily fee golf courses.

Robert R. Hatten
Mr. Hatten is a prominent Tidewater Virginia attorney with over 28 years experience as a trial lawyer.  Additionally he is involved in a wide variety of real estate and civic projects.  He graduated from Hampden Sydney College in 1969 and received his Juris Doctor from Washington & Lee University in 1972.  He served as a law clerk for the Honorable John A Mackenzie in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia for one year before joining the law firm of Patten, Wornom & Watkins, now Patten, Wornom, Hatten and Diamonstein, where he has been partner since 1976.  Last year Mr. Hatten was recognized as one of the best lawyers in America in the field of personal injury practice.  He has served on the Board of Trustees of Hampden-Sydney College and the Board of Trustees of the Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky.
